Here are solutions to your excuses:
1) . I’m out of town a lot.
I know some of you go away for weekends in the summer. This should not deter you from planting a box or at least one flower. You can saturate your box before leaving for the weekend and upon returning. This should be enough.
But there are many ways to remedy this problem.
Try this if you leave for a week: fill 3 Poland Spring water bottles (or any water bottle) with water and place them upside down into the soil. This allows a slow irrigation of water for a few days. Long enough for you to enjoy your time away and come home to your beautiful flowers.
Or you can buy these devices (like the water bottles but nicer) for 10-20$ on Amazon to make things neater and easier.
There are pots that are self watering and inexpensive.
Or make her your new best friend.
2. Flowers are expensive.
The cost of one flower and a pot is roughly $10. A flower box and with a couple of plants is about $25. A larger flower box filled with flowers will cost about $50; including pot and dirt and flowers. Less than the cost of a night out in the city!
3. I’ve tried and failed.
4). I don’t have any windows that face the street.
Doesn’t matter. Plant it inside for yourself.
5). I have no natural light.
First of all, don’t forget fake flowers work. Or there are some shady types that don’t need sun:
A full list of plants that don’t much sun can be found here.
Or there’s always a grow light.
